DAARTT is established to improve access to functioning primary and secondary school facilities in Afghanistan. The program was initiated in the end of 2003, with program focus on design, development, planning and implementation of construction and rehabilitation.

The program is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA) and implemented in close co-ordination with the Afghan Ministry of Education (MoE). This includes getting geographical priority/provinces and introduction letter to the selected provinces and the education department from where the needs of class rooms etc. are listed for each school.  

The DAARTT survey team does the site inspection and collects all required information regarding school estimation, equal access to education, community participation, land size and ownership. Following the selected school site is approved by the MoE and construction is initiated.

So far DAARTT has constructed 26 schools for more than 10000 students in different provinces of Afghanistan
