DAARTT
(Danish Assistance to Afghan
Rehabilitation and Technical Training)
has been working in Afghanistan since
2004 with construction of schools. The
school construction work now carried out
by DAARTT was initially started by
DACAAR (Danish Committee for Aid to
Afghan Refugees).
DACAAR
was established in 1984. In
2004, the Building Programme was
separated from DACAAR, and hence staff
and all school construction activities
were transferred to DAARTT.
DAARTT objectives:
The aim is to provide a quality learning
environment conducive for children in
primary school grades. In addition to
school construction this includes the
provision of school furniture and
relevant teaching materials.
Geography:
DAARTT activities currently cover 6 of
the 34 provinces in Afghanistan.
DAARTT and the Afghan Government:
DAARTT works closely with the Afghan
Ministry of Education, and with the
Department of Construction regarding
mapping of schools, estimation and
monitoring of the projects.
2004:
With funding from the Danish Ministry of
Foreign Affairs - Danida, DAARTT
constructed eight new schools in three
provinces - Logar, Laghman and Nangarhar.
Furthermore, DAARTT also completed a
programme funded by the European
Commission including rehabilitation of
fourteen schools and construction of two
new schools in Ghazni, Laghman and Khost
Provinces.
2005-2007:
With funding from the Danish Ministry of
Foreign Affairs - Danida, DAARTT
constructed eight new schools in five
provinces – Badakhshan, Samangan, Logar,
Maidan Wardak and Nangarhar.
Furthermore, DAARTT refurbished five
schools in three provinces - Kabul,
Badahkshan and Nangarhar.
Employees:
DAARTT is based in Kabul and employs
approximately 30 Afghans and one
international.
